Tasha Tolliver, MBA
I started out this life in a rough neighborhood with two disabled parents, not enough money to get by, and not much to look forward to. By the grace of God and a lot of hard work, I got into a good university. During my first semester in a sociology class, I read a disturbing statistic: only 4% of the people in the United States that were born into families in the lowest 20% of household income earners ever reach the top 20% of household income earners. In other words: born poor, die poor. I remember thinking to myself 26 years ago: I SWEAR TO GOD THAT WILL NOT BE ME!!
However, I was forced to drop out after that first year. I didn't have enough money to carry on. I got a job at a Fortune 100 company, working in a factory on a production line because I knew they would pay for my degree. Over the years, I got my degree, landed an entry level job in accounting, and continued earning promotions from there.
During the pandemic, I got so disillusioned with the news of the high unemployment. It scared me--I was one pink slip away from losing everything. I decided to open a dog daycare and grooming facility to help secure my family's financial freedom. It was only then that I understood the issues that challenged small business owners, and many have no finance background. My job for the last decade has been to provide business decision support to VPs and C-Suite executives in some of America's largest companies. I have learned to explain financial concepts in layman's terms. It is my mission to make this service available and within reach to every small business owner that needs it.
